Teeing off on cancer

The Scramble Against Cancer is one of the most coveted tournaments in the valley. Not only are funds raised to help detect breast cancer, but Johannes and Rosana Faessler of the Sonnenalp Club lay out a truly amazing buffet for the golfers, sponsors and even those who don’t golf, but just want to attend a wonderful party.

This year marked 10 years of the golf tournament, and it was held on a perfect, blue-sky day. Over $100,000 was raised for the Sonnenalp Breast Diagnostic Imaging Center at the Shaw Cancer Center.

Paragon Technology Group, Alpine Bank and Viele Construction took home the top trophies and trips to Tahoe Mountain Resort donated by East-West Resorts.

Die-hard golfers played two shotguns of golf. That was the easy part; it was the endless eating and drinking along the course with grills preparing lamb/shrimp/veggie kabobs, tenderloin sliders and brats washed down by ice-cold Fat Tire and Coors (to say nothing of the all-you-can-eat ice cream treats) that most likely did in the foursomes.

Lexus, Marketplace/One Willow Bridge, Sonnenalp Resort and VVMC supplied some great gifts, as Don Watson and the Vail Valley Band provided dining music. Later on, Denver’s own Hazel Miller Band re-energized the crowd. The guests were truly from all over, coming from as far away as Brazil, Florida, Texas, South Carolina and Arizona.
