Avon Bakery and Deli, 0025 Hurd Lane, Avon, (970) 949-3354
Open since Oct. 26, 2000, the Avon Bakery & Deli always strives to cook fresh, high-quality food. All breads and soups are made on the premises using house made stocks, not soup bases. Proprietors Mark and Dan say they only serve food that they would eat themselves. Avon Bakery & Deli is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Every day, from 6 – 7 p.m., all bread, bagels and pastries are two-for-one.

Ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cups granulated sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. vanilla
3 whole eggs
3 egg yolks
1/2 cup hazelnuts (toasted whole and rough chopped)
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Directions:
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Combine eggs, yolks, and vanilla in another bowl. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and mix until just combined – do not over mix. Add nuts and chocolate chips. Dough should be firm and pliable, not too loose or wet. Roll into two-inch logs and place on a baking pan covered with parchment paper. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Bake for 20 minutes at 325 degrees until golden brown and firm. Allow to cool and dry over night. Slice log on an angle and place pieces on a baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes at 325 degrees.
